Today is National Change Your Password Day!

February 1, 2014 By Regina Smola 3 Comments

Password SecurityWay too many people are getting their online accounts, websites, and emails compromised due to bad or weak passwords. Don't let this happen to you.

In honor of “National Change Your Password Day,” please take some time TODAY and increase your password security.

Here's some quick password security tips:

  1. Never use the same password twice – each should be unique.
  2. Your passwords should be strong with a long combination of letter (upper and lower case), numbers and characters.
  3. Use LastPass to manage your passwords securely – get a free account at http://lastpass.com.
  4. From your LastPass Vault, run the “Security Check” tool to help find those weak passwords and duplicates.
  5. If you need help with setting up your LastPass or want some LastPass training for your or your team, Christine Cobb and I can help you out. More info at http://passwordhelp.me.

Also be sure to hop on over and read the latest post from LastPass, “Your 3 Tasks for National Change Your Password Day.”

Thanks for the article Regina. It amazes me at how carefree most people are about their websites. They don’t take their security serious until they get hacked. Maybe my endorsement of your article will add more strengths to my adamant claims that people should take security with all they have seriously. Like they do for their homes.

Thanks so much Wayne. You are so right about people waiting UNTIL they get hacked to take action. Some causes, laziness, lack of education, shiny button syndrome, or they don’t care till it happens.

    Hi Regina,

Thanks for providing these helpful security tips. I deal with many WordPress sites and their security is always my concern.

I’ll be active to make them more secure from now.

    Thanks,
    Ankit
