WordPress 3.6 was released to the public yesterday and it’s another major upgrade.
They've named this one “Oscar” in honor of the great jazz pianist Oscar Peterson.
Here’s a description in Matt Mullenweg’s own words
“The latest and greatest WordPress, version 3.6, is now live to the world and includes a beautiful new blog-centric theme, bullet-proof autosave and post locking, a revamped revision browser, native support for audio and video embeds, and improved integrations with Spotify, Rdio, and SoundCloud.”
Don’t Install Yet
Even though I've been looking forward to the great new features and the colorful new Twenty Thirteen theme, I’ll wait a few days before I install 3.6 on client sites. You know I’m all about security and being safe. This is just another way I stay safe.
Here’s the deal. WordPress 3.6 is already safe, but we need to give plugin and theme developers time to insure compatiblity with the new upgrade. If there’s a conflict it could break your site. Not good!
Meanwhile, watch the video below and read all the details about WordPress 3.6 at WordPress.org.
I’ll be watching the plugins for security issues as they update to fit WordPress 3.6. Want to check plugin compatibility yourself? Open each plugin page and look at “Compatible Up to: 3.6”.
Leave your feedback:
Have you installed WordPress 3.6 on your website? Did you notice any compatibility issues with your plugins or theme? What's your favorite new feature of version 3.6? Submit a comment below.
Stay Safe!

Hi Regina
Just updated half a dozen sites with only one plugin conflict – Genesis latest tweets plugin.
I deactivate all plugins before I upgrade and reactivate when upgrade is complete.
Saw that somewhere ages ago and I’ve always done it like that ever since.

Hi Keith,
Thank so much for letting us know. That’s fantastic that it went so smooth.
Hopefully, the plugin developer for Genesis Latest Tweets will get it fixed soon. Did you get a chance to mark it as broken so they know?
Have an awesome day,
Regina

You’re one of the few people I’ve come across that actually has some sense regarding new WP updates. I’ve been using WP for more than seven years and never update to a new version for at least a month, sometimes longer, until all the plugins I use have been updated and I contact my host to ask if they’ve heard of any compatibility issues.
I’m hopeful more people come across your blog and take your advice. It’s not only the smart move, it’s the only move.
Regards,
