Happy 4th of July!
Just on the heels of the WordPress 3.1.4 security release, the developers have finished the new and improved WordPress 3.2 “Gershwin” and has been released to the public and ready for download.
WordPress 3.2 is their 15th major release and comes with many improvements and added security.
We'll be updating to WordPress 3.2 later this week, but wanted to give you the heads up and look forward to your feedback.
Matt Mullenweg of WordPress.org had this to say about WordPress 3.2:
The focus for this release was making WordPress faster and lighter. The first thing you’ll notice when you log in to 3.2 is a refreshed dashboard design that tightens the typography, design, and code behind the admin. Rhapsody in Grey?)
If you’re starting a new blog, you’ll also appreciate the fully HTML5 new Twenty Eleven theme, fulfilling our plan to replace the default theme every year. Start writing your first post in our redesigned post editor and venture to the full-screen button in the editing toolbar to enter the new distraction-free writing or zen mode, my personal favorite feature of the release.
All of the widgets, menus, buttons, and interface elements fade away to allow you to compose and edit your thoughts in a completely clean environment conducive to writing, but when your mouse strays to the top of the screen your most-used shortcuts are right there where you need them. (I like to press F11 to take my browser full-screen, getting rid of even the OS chrome.)

After we update to WordPress 3.2, I'll be sharing our experience doing both a manual and automatic upgrade and any plugin compability or bug issue that comes along.

i love the twenty eleven theme, html5 and the features of clean and minimalist is awesome. The idea if fullscreen is good but i seldom use the preset buttons as im much prefer to use the html version rather than the visual.

Quite a surprise – I was not expecting 3.2 this early. It explains why 1 of my fave plugins – Ozh drop down menu was just released to be compatible with 3.2.
I’ll wait a few days and let things settle down !

Hi Regina,
I appreciate your heads up on everything. I will also wait a few days, then plan on updating automatically. So far I have never had any issues with updating WP.
Thanks again,

I was wondering about the requirement of PHP 5.2.4 so I checked my hosting account and noticed I was running 5.2.17. Don’t be confused as I was that point 4 was higher than point 17. Forget the point! 17 is higher than 4 and according to Hostgator 5.2.4 is “really old” so not to worry!
Regina Smola says
Hi Chris,
Thanks for your comment. It is a bit confusing regarding version numbers for php. But you’re correct. 5.2.4 is older.
January 6, 2011 – PHP version 5.2.17
August 30, 2007 – PHP version 5.2.4
You can see version dates on their changelog here – http://www.php.net/ChangeLog-5.php
I love how fast HostGator is on updating their servers 🙂

Then, i cleared cache and it’s working now.
I went through the source code of my site and i couldn’t find any suspicious codes.
But, now my site is working fine.
I still haven’t upgraded to 3.2.1

Hema,
That is typical malicious hacker code to redirect your search engine visitors to a bad site. It makes your site look normal visiting the domain directly. Make sure you’ve removed it.
Hema Latha says
Hello Regina,
Thanks for the reply. I have removed the code from .htaccess.
Also i have checked for the base eval code. I didn’t find any such code.
Is this the issue coz of not upgrading from 3.2 to 3.2.1 ?
I delay updating wp versions coz some of the plugins become incompatible with new versions.
Thank you.
Regina Smola says
Hi Hema,
Thanks for your question. No, the issue with your site being hacked has nothing to do with WordPress 3.2 or 3.2.1. Hackers got in somehow, either from guessing your password for your wp-admin, cpanel/ftp, or there’s some sort of vulnerability on your site. Check your plugins too. For instance, are you using wp-phpmyadmin? Check my post “WP-phpMyAdmin Plugin Hacked – Backdoor vulnerability.”

Hema,
Also be sure to change all your passwords, the secret keys in the wp-config.php file, and check your server permissions.
