Go Daddy Online Security Team Wins Global Award For Excellence

February 21, 2011 By Regina Smola 7 Comments

SC Magazine Honors Go Daddy as “Best Security Team”

GodaddySCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (Feb. 16, 2011)

Many people know about Go Daddy's reputation for racy Super Bowl commercials, but few know the world's top *Web hosting provider is also a powerhouse when it comes to keeping people safe on the Internet – blocking more than 100 million attacks every day. Last night, the company was recognized for having the IT industry's “Best Security Team” at the 14th annual SC Magazine Awards in San Francisco.

The Go Daddy IT Security Team helps protect more than 46 million domain names under management, more than 8.8 million customers and is the authoritative DNS for one-third of the Internet, ensuring a safe online experience for users across the globe.

In its six years of operation, the Go Daddy IT Security Team has matured from one person to more than 50. The security team works around the clock, running robust, 24/7 Network and Security Operations Centers and monitoring 100,000 security events per second. Dedicated team members are constantly monitoring for attacks or anomalies across Go Daddy's systems, proactively detecting threats and working swiftly to eliminate them.

“Millions of people depend on Go Daddy to be their personal IT security department, which allows our customers to focus on building their businesses and enhancing their Web presence,” explained Go Daddy CEO and Founder Bob Parsons. “Go Daddy is working hard all day, every day to protect our customers' websites … it's an honor to see our IT Security Team recognized with this award from SC Magazine.”

One strategy for security effectiveness is the team's recurring Go Daddy “Hackfest” event which takes place internally. The team works with developers from departments inside *Go Daddy. The event proactively seeks out product vulnerabilities. The approach not only secures Go Daddy products, but also familiarizes the rest of the company with security processes.

Through the use of an innovative tool called SIM (Security Information Management), the Go Daddy IT Security Team has also helped the company become a pioneer for Internet security analysis and response. SIM is a new approach based in large part on a security network's ability to defend itself before it is attacked.

Many customers turn to Go Daddy as their personal IT security department and technology authority. Go Daddy has dedicated customer security advisors available by phone or e-mail 24/7 to assist with any security needs or concerns a customer may have.

This surely must be propaganda or a joke of some kind.

And hard to believe you would find it here on WPSecurityLock, after everything, really…

Ah, OK – I see now:

    I expected better!

It has to be a joke. I have suffered many attacks and they always blame us about it. But business is business, more malware more money for companies who clean websites. Fortunately I am moving from Godaddy. What a horrible hosting provider.

“What I find ironic about this whole thing, it comes so clearly after the recent round of Godaddy accounts hacked running WordPress blogs that’s all over the internet. So tell me SC, just out of curiosity, how much did Godaddy pay to get this released to try to redirect from the facts presented about so many Godaddy WordPress installs hacked? With so many hacks reported, how can you give such a company an award like this?”

I just posted that over on the original release, we’ll see if it’s moderated out, which I’m sure it will be. I agree with John. How in the world someone can give Godaddy an award like that with the way the hacking went on with WordPress blogs they hosted, recently, is beyond me. I’m sorry to say, it stinks of propaganda trying to cover up the fact that their security is crap. I’m so tired of Godaddy and their BS, especially when it comes to running Apache 1.5 and telling me they’re so big it’s hard to roll out updates on such large networks. I’m about ready to jump to another host.

Everytime I’ve dealt with the idiots over there, it’s always about something we’ve done. To me, they just bought SC to get a review in hopes the customer exodus, especially us customers knowing their crap excuses, doesn’t continue. I’m done promoting them as well. Need to remove the ads from my main sites yet, but no more will I recommend a company that wants to use customers or lie like this one does.

      Hi Jim,

Thanks for your comment and expressing how you feel. I checked SC’s website and don’t see your comment yet, nor are there any others. Hopefully they will approve it and answer your question.

Thanks Regina, I doubt it, it’s bad publicity for them, and I don’t see SC wishing to be so transparent about their choices. Many companies aren’t.

ridiculous… go daddy’s hosting is utterly ridiculous… it looks cheap but then they try to nickel and dime you to death for every llittle thing that is already included in other hosting packages.

I refuse to work on anyone’s website that is hosted there.

I firmly believe that the godaddy sytem is built intentionally confusing so that new webmasters get frustrated and give up and buy the website tonite package and I could not even believe it when I saw that they actually limit the # of pages you can have on it and try to charge you for extra pages.

You have got to be kidding….. Really.

if you ask anyone with any web experience whatsoever, they will warn you to stay away from go daddy’s hosting. … domain registration is fine, but don’t ever host with them.

    Sc doesnt host with godaddy.

Doesn’t really inspire confidence in their “award”.
Let them put their business on godaddy’s servers if they think they are so great.
